Slow or broken website

The site takes ten seconds to open. A page has been returning an error since the last update. The form no longer sends anything and nobody had noticed. Or the supplier who built it has stopped answering, and you have neither the credentials nor the code.

We start with a diagnosis, before any proposal. It says what is broken, what is merely slow, what is dangerous, and how much work each point represents. You receive it in writing and it belongs to you: nothing obliges you to give us the work that follows.

What we do not do: sell a full rebuild to someone who needs a repair. A four-year-old site that drags is almost always repairable, often within days. Rebuilding from scratch costs ten times as much and loses the search rankings already earned. We propose it only when repairing would cost more than rebuilding, and in that case we show the arithmetic.

The unreachable-supplier case is the most common and the simplest to deal with. It means taking back control of the hosting, the domain name and the credentials, which can be done without the cooperation of whoever left, provided the domain is in your company’s name. That takes five minutes to check and it is the first thing we look at.

What the diagnosis covers

A site taken over

  1. Home page of a broker: the heading Insurance and credit, a family photograph on the right, and a button to request a quote.
    Client
    Balli Finances
    Sector
    Insurance broking
    Deliverable
    Presentation site

A trade where what you sell first is trust. The site had to make legible what the broker actually covers, and let someone ask for a quote without a phone call.

Once the site is back on its feet, there are two ways forward. Keeping it that way is maintenance. Genuinely rebuilding it, where the diagnosis points that way, is a rebuild.
